Meticulous Work
The two units of the house on the Dolgorukovskaya Street look like Russian treasure chests, while the brickwork of their walls echoes the belfry of the Saint Nicolas Church in Novaya Sloboda. The project, although small, became the result of thorough analysis of the architectural environment and was selected out of many other options.

Carousel. Tree. Tower.
The premier of “The Magic Flute” (Die Zauberflöte) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the scenery designed by Sergey Kuznetsov and Agnia Sterligova (Planet 9) in “Helikon-Opera” is a pure delight for adults and children alike (the opera is staged in two versions). The stage design is the core, upon which is strung the wild narrative about the controversy between the feminine and masculine.

The Crystal of Music
The highly contemporary and technically sophisticated building of the philharmonic hall in Zaryadye Park combines interesting nonlinear solutions with a powerful retrospective of the sixties. At the same time, it is not conservative at all – rather, it can be understood as a metaphor or even “crystallization” of music, an art that is both emotional and mathematically abstract as well.

A Hip-and-Valley Skyline
The ASTRA housing complex designed by SYNCHROTECTURE in the very center of the city of Perm is a rather famous one – it was showcased at several architectural festivals. The architects were able to find common ground with the city people, the surrounding nature, and the historical part of the city, at the same time bringing back to life two monuments of architecture of the XIX century.

Sky. Circles. Syncopes.
The recently built housing complex designed by ADM architects vividly shows how to make a whole city block out of but three towers, how to turn something that’s virtually flat into something volumetric, make houses of the same height look like something diverse, houses of odd height – like something uniformed, and integrate a maximum amount of sky and verdure into the environment that you create.

Designed by Archimatika, the gymnasium A+ on the territory of Kiev’s housing complex “Comfort Town” is remarkable not only for its architecture that can best be described as a “friendly fortress” but also for its openness: it is designed in such a way that both students and their parents can have a comfortable time here, and other children and adults as well.

Civitas ludens*
Tula, the city of rugged gunsmiths, got a new embankment – a relaxed space of a postindustrial type. It promptly reacts to all the difficulties presented by the context, treating them nicely and easily, more like a game than a tough challenge. The city center came alive with colors, interesting space solutions, and a multitude of possible behavioral scenarios. There are also lots of unusual and exciting kinds of entertainment for kids as well.

ATOM ag: “Provocative, Innovative, Beautiful”
ATOM group is a new interdisciplinary team of architects founded by Rustam Kerimov, Yury and Mark Safronov and Natalia Zaichenko on the basis of A-GA, AM PROEKTUS Architectural Office, and NZgroup. In this issue, we are trying to find out what the new group is all about – as is already known, its plans are quite ambitious: participating in contests, developing new types of façade materials, educational projects, urban planning, and expo design. All of these are united by the principle of “turnkey” solutions for project development.

Keeping it in working order is detrimental to the city budget, and generally it is like a suitcase without a handle. Prepared by Sergey Kiselev and Partners, the concept of developing a 150-hectare chunk of land at the outskirts of Orenburg has at least two major string points: the presence of a fair number of what usually is considered to be the components of a comfortable city and the absence of any overly “marketing” techniques – in other words, the project is realistic to the bone.
