The Arisha Terraces is being designed for Dubai Studio City – a hub for television and film industries located between Trump International Golf Club Dubai and the Motor City racing complex. Among other things, this district will host Hollywood and Bollywood pavilions, recording studios, production offices, and innovative spaces for various creative projects.

A little background information first! The word “arisha”, commonly used in the Persian Gulf region, refers to a partition that protects you from the scorching sun – similar to a mashrabiya but seemingly simpler. The complex’s concept builds on this idea, with a central courtyard oasis shielded from the outside world and direct sunlight by “cliffs” formed by the surrounding residential buildings. During the massing phase, the architects drew inspiration from mountains, whose peaks gradually erode and thin out under the influence of wind, creating a unique and picturesque silhouette.
The complex comprises four buildings connected by a podium. Each building anchors a corner of the almost-square site, at the same time extending a terrace-covered section into the courtyard, shaded by the earlier-mentioned wooden pergolas. Such a “solar” composition, combined with the tiered structure seen from above, creates a funnel effect, further enhanced by the central blue pool, which does look like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Another fitting analogy is a canyon carved over centuries by water in a mountain’s depths. The design masterfully blends natural inspiration with practical urban living. This compositional approach also creates private courtyards with abundant shade, achieved without the feeling of being in a “stone cage”: the spaces open up to scenic views, preserving a sense of airiness and permeability.

The complex looks equally flashy on both its “front” and “rear” sides. The courtyard features what can be described as “collapse” (no less!) – where the buildings’ mass seems to have crumbled into the terrace cells, gradually settling down on the slope’s lower part.

On the street-facing facades, the effect resembles “erosion” – the walls’ flat surfaces are interrupted by recesses that highlight glazed verticals and create a dynamic, visually engaging silhouette. The voxel-like mass increases toward the upper floors unevenly, making it impossible to define clear tiers and adding to the architectural complexity. The most “irregular” combinations of balconies, terraces, and recesses are concentrated at the corners of the buildings, emphasizing the intersections and drawing attention to these focal points. The “harder” parts of the “rock”, evidently resistant to wind and water, feature a smooth, polished finish, while the “softer” parts are distinguished by a ribbed texture, creating a tactile contrast.

The podium gallery outlines the complex and, along with the first two residential floors, serves as a stable “base” for the “plastique” experiment unfolding above.

Each building houses about 100 apartments, mostly studios and one-bedroom units, but all with balconies or terraces. The diversity of layouts is impressive – over 120 options, reflecting the complex’s intricate design. The residential spaces are further expanded by a variety of public areas liberally scattered all across the complex.
First and foremost, this is the “oasis” courtyard. The visualizations below resemble a hotel area, but for Dubai residents, a pool is a basic necessity. It’s complemented by Jacuzzis, showers, and changing rooms. The courtyard also includes a children’s playground, barbecue zones, refreshing fountains, and numerous secluded seating areas surrounded by greenery and canopies.
The roofs of two buildings are accessible: one features a court for Padel tennis – a popular sport in Dubai – and the other hosts greenhouses with hydroponic gardens. Here, the residents can grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers or simply relax. Even utilitarian areas like the underground parking lot remind you of the oasis concept, with a large green island of tropical plants illuminated by spherical lights.

The podium area includes obligatory retail spaces along the street front, as well as a gym and something resembling a neighborhood center – a spacious two-level area where residents can work, hold meetings, watch movies, or celebrate small events. Each building’s lobby reflects a different natural element in its design.
The Arisha Terraces project, soon to enter the realizationstage, is far from the only project that the company has developed for the Gulf region. Their portfolio already includes concepts for cottage communities, hospitals, high-rise buildings, and even an airport. At one session of the recent “Kazanysh” forum, Andrey Asadov shared that achieving such results required about a year and a half of hard work, with personal meetings with clients playing a key role – something other speakers with relevant experience also mentioned. So, we can expect a surge in international projects – for all intents and purposes, the Russian architects clearly have much to offer.
