Alyona Kuznetsova. ​Lighthouse on the Cliff

One of the neighborhoods in Desnarechye, a large-scale district under construction in New Moscow, is being designed by the architectural company Krupny Plan (KPLN). The site has its advantages and challenges: on the one hand, the river is close by and the landscape is expressive; on the other, there is a highway and a change in elevation. The architects decided to emphasize the site’s existing “texture”: they placed a lighthouse-like tower as a landmark on the natural high ground, made the podium a continuation of the cliff, and reflected the proximity of the river in the architecture of the sectional buildings.

Julia Tarabarina. The Sculpting of Spring Forest Matter

We’ve been observing this building for a couple of years now: seemingly simple, perhaps even unassuming, it fits in remarkably well with the micro-district context shaped by the Moscow MCD road junctions. This building sticks in the memory of everyone who drives along the highway, even occasionally. In our opinion, Sergey Nikeshkin, by blending popular architectural techniques and approaches of the 2010s, managed to turn a seemingly simple structure into a statement “on the theme of a house as such”. Let’s figure out how this happened.

Julia Tarabarina. ​The Wavelength

Built in the town of Pushkino in the Moscow area, the “Turgeneva 13” housing complex, while fitting in with the surrounding context, differs from it with the rhythmic austerity of its dual composition, a slight wave of the façade, and the color design, in which one can see two images, winter and summer, both “growing” from the specifics of the place.

Natalia Koriakovskaia. ​Towers in a Forest

The authors of the housing complex “In the Heart of Pushkino” were faced with a difficult task: to preserve the already existing urban forest, at the same time building on it a compound of rather high density. This is how three towers at the edge of the forest appeared with highly developed public spaces in their podiums and graceful “tucks” in the crowning part of the 18-story volumes.
