Born in Moscow, Alexey graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture (MARKHI), Department of Residential and Public Buildings, and began his career at the architectural studio “Group ABV”. As chief project architect, he completed several projects, the most notable being a collaboration with the American firm SOM on the Dukat III office building. This project, the first in Russia to receive a BREEAM certification, became Alexey’s first international experience.
In 2004, he established his first architectural studio. From 2007 to 2019, he headed Studio No. 1 at SPEECH. He is the co-author of more than 100 projects and 25 completed buildings, including:
– the Russian pavilions at EXPO in Milan and Dubai;
– the Novatek headquarters;
– the Russian Pavilion at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale;
– NEVA TOWERS in Moscow City;
– the “Collection” Museum at ZIL;
– “Microcity in the Forest”
The “Microcity in the Forest” project became the first built example in Russia of a contemporary urban-planning structure based on a gradation of public and private spaces. The project’s ideas later formed the basis for wider urban-planning practice and master planning.
International projects in Milan, Venice, Dubai, and Minsk played a key role in shaping his architectural outlook.
Alexey’s projects have received awards from the Moscow Architectural Council and international competitions, and have been published on Archi.ru and ArchDaily. He has taken part in major architectural events ranging from MIPIM and EXPO REAL to ArchMoscow.
In addition to practice, Alexey teaches and curates workshops. He also enjoys creating architectural watercolors, and is a winner of the “ARCHIGRAPHIKA” competition and a member of ASAI, the American Society of Architectural Illustrators.
