  TAB – ежегодный международный фестиваль, который демонстрирует современную архитектурную культуру прибалтийских стран. Здесь обсуждаются насущные проблемы и тенденции развития градостроительной сферы. В рамках фестиваля проходят мероприятия как для профессионалов отрасли и студентов, так и для всех интересующихся архитектурой. В этом году участникам предлагается взглянуть на город, как на «новую природу». Тема биеннале – bioTallinn.

The 4th installment of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale will be curated by architect, urban designer and ecologist Claudia Pasquero, co-founder, with Marco Poletto, of ecoLogicStudio and director of the Urban Morphogenesis Lab at the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, who was appointed head curator of TAB 2017 based on her proposal “Bio.T.A.llinn”. TAB opens in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, in September 2017.

The Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2017 will undertake a non-anthropocentric investigation of the city of Tallinn, conceived as a territory of self-organisation and co-evolution of multiple dynamic systems which are at the same time ecological, infrastructural, technological and social in nature.

TAB 2017 explores the notion of ‘collective intelligence’ as it has recently emerged in scientific studies of nature, in order to envision a resilient and adaptive interpretation of the city. The curatorial team will invite local as well as international artists and scientists to engage with this notion through original works that will inspire visitors with a vision of the city as ‘new nature’, conjuring scenarios of urban symbiosis and co-evolution.

Building on this vision, TAB 2017 explores a new format of ‘design and research based’ Biennale for which artists, architects and their experimental practices are invited to propose design solutions for a specific part of the city of Tallinn, the Paljassaare Peninsula, located in the northern district of Tallinn. The site can be considered as a prototypical illustration of the contemporary conflictual relationship between the urbansphere and the biosphere. Urbansphere refers to the global apparatus of contemporary urbanity, a dense network of informational, material and energetic infrastructures that sustain our increasingly demanding metabolism. TAB 2017 proposes a radical revision of the contemporary urbansphere by suggesting novel terms for its sustainable co-evolution with the biosphere. The TAB 2017 is formally and conceptually articulated as an enquiry into the potential future of the three strata of the Paljassaare Peninsula, each of which is not considered a zone but instead an operational field for breeding new solutions for urban symbiosis:
  • The waste and energy industry: industrial
  • The special conservation area: wildlife
  • The former military infrastructure: heritage
The 2017 Biennale will feature a major international exhibition, the Vision competition, and a symposium curated by Pasquero and her team. TAB 2017 will also include under the umbrella of ‘bio.T.A.llinn’ an international architectural schools’ exhibition, and an installation programme competition.
