Участникам предлагается разработать проект горного укрытия на туристическом маршруте к вершине Фицрой в аргентинской области Патагония. Competition Brief
Mountain Sanctuary — Monte Fitz Roy 2026 is an open international architecture ideas competition organised by Concursos AG360, a Latin American private competition platform active since 2009. The competition invites architects and architecture students worldwide to design a mountain sanctuary within a national park in the Patagonia region of Argentina, conceived as a place of rest and contemplation for hikers and climbers on their journey toward Monte Fitz Roy. The competition is open to all qualified architects and architecture students globally. The official working language is Spanish, though an English version of the brief and registration are available on the organiser’s website. It is a single-stage, one-prize competition.
Intent
The Mountain Sanctuary must be conceived as part of the natural flow of the trail, functioning as an organic pause within the experience of the ascent. The design is expected to provide protection against the extreme climatic conditions of the Patagonian environment including wind, cold, and snow, without becoming a permanent or large-scale refuge. The proposal must establish a careful relationship with the landscape of Monte Fitz Roy, avoiding excessive visual prominence and prioritising framing, circulation routes, and sensory experiences. The sanctuary should aspire to become a recognisable and memorable point within the route, remaining in the memory of visitors long after they have passed through.
Purpose
The competition is conceptual in nature. Winning and shortlisted proposals will be published on the AG360 website and distributed across international architecture platforms and publications. A virtual booklet of the best proposals will be produced. The competition has no construction commission attached and functions primarily as a portfolio and visibility platform for participants.
Requirements
The competition is open to all architects and architecture students. It is a single-stage, open-to-all format with minimum eligibility requirements. Participants must comply with inscription requirements published in the full competition brief (Bases Completas), downloadable from the AG360 website. Submissions are made in Spanish as the official language. Site documentation and location files are available for download on the competition website at concursosag360.com.
Jury
The jury (Comité de Evaluación) for the 2026 edition is to be announced on 4 May 2026. Individual jury member names have not been published at the time of writing. Participants should note that in a past edition of AG360 competitions, a serious transparency controversy emerged regarding the claimed participation of a prominent international architect as jury member, which was subsequently denied by that architect’s office. AG360 attributed the issue to a spoofed website using a similar domain. The jury for the 2026 Mountain Sanctuary edition has not yet been published and participants are advised to verify jury composition on the official website before registering.
