‘From Dreams to Rail-ity’ – Ideas Competition for the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (TPRS) is organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA).
Gazetted in 2011 as Singapore’s 64th National Monument, TPRS was a bustling terminus for the historic West Coast Rail Line of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) railway, ferrying passengers and goods between Singapore and Malaya from 1932 to 2011. While the station has ceased service, the building remains a major historical landmark located at the edge of the city. It will be well-served by public transport when the Circle Line extension is completed in 2026, with a MRT station (Cantonment station) built below the site. Against this backdrop, TPRS is set to embark on the next phase of its life as a key node and southern gateway for the 24km long Rail Corridor recreational spine. It has immense potential to be transformed through adaptive re-use into a vibrant multi-functional community building, with attractive, inclusive and inviting public spaces for all to appreciate the unique heritage of the site.
‘From Dreams to Rail-ity’ presents an exciting opportunity for the public to propose creative and interesting ideas that will give TPRS a new lease of life over the next 20 years. The competition will run for 8 weeks from 22 April 2024 to 14 June 2024.
