Cultural Winery: a new taste experience in Tuscany

In search of ground-breaking concepts and original projects, “Cultural Winery” encourages participants to experiment with a wide variety of shapes, layouts and textures.

The competition program requires the design of a building within the boundaries of the project area located next to the vineyard extension.

Naturally, the formal design of the project and the choice of materials must be sensibly integrated with both the surrounding landscape and the existing structures. The way in which the new intervention will “dialogue” with the context is a key point that must be addressed with special attention.

The most conservative proposals will be evaluated and appreciated in the same way as those capable of taking the project concept to a more experimental level. Designers will have the freedom to intervene creatively both at a landscape and topographic level. The new volume will be the heart of the winery, the core and meeting point where most of the activities will take place. It will be possible to organize it in maximum three levels: basement, ground floor and first floor.
It is not foreseen a minimum or maximum amount of squared meters to cover. What really matters are the distribution of spaces, the multifunctionality of the different areas and the possibility to accommodate a variety of programs in a flexible way.

Designers must locate the building within the project area indicated in the graphic files and it will not be mandatory to cover all the available surface (the perimeter specifies only the limits to place the volume).
The project must be equipped with at least the following spaces: a reception hall, a small restaurant, a kitchen, an area for selling local products and wines, a tasting room and a space where bottles and barrels can be stored and displayed, a flexible multifunctional area for cultural activities, an office and a meeting room for the administration, toilets, service areas and any other space considered essential to define the identity of the winery.

It will be possible to incorporate any kind of intermediate and outdoor spaces, such as semi-covered areas, pergolas, terraces and galleries.
