Young Architects’ competition 2016 : Creating Parking Facility Cultural Space
Цель конкурса – превратить парковочную зону в живописном пригороде Сеула в культурное пространство, сохранив при этом ее изначальную функцию. Проблема в том, что парковка негативно влияет на окружающую среду и нарушает облик местности. Участникам необходимо создать на ее месте общественное пространство, архитектурный объект, который не только впишется в контекст пригорода, но и станет популярным среди местных жителей местом.

Jeongneung-dong is a place where Seoul and range of Bukhansan, representative famous mountain of Seoul and metropolitan area, meet and this town has great landscape scenery. However, it lost its spatial beauty due to rapid growth of Seoul population in 70's~90's and facilities lack in connection to surrounding area. Jeongneung-dong Public Parking Facility is located in the middle of Jeongneung-dong valley and Jeongneung creek and this facility ruins landscape scenery of this region. Various civil complaint has been brought up for a long time due to noise, smoke, and fumes. Goal of this competition is to reorganize current Public Parking Facility as facility which creates harmony with natural environment and seek for method to transform this facility to favorite spot for not only local residents but also Seoul citizens. Realizing creative plan, which can fuse city infrastructure and community programs for local residents by constructing parking facility combined with cultural facility, is the design goal.
Design scope and subject for this design is Public Parking Facility in
Jeongneung 4-dong, Seongbuk-gu. Prepare method to relocate bus parking lot to basement while maintaining spatial function with current number of parking stalls of Jeongneung Public Parking Facility. In addition, provide visual and site utilization improvement idea by constructing community facility on ground level while considering 10topographic condition and surrounding environment. Characteristic theme for developing this site into cultural facility is proposing design which can contain poem oriented literature and artistic activities that citizen can share. Program, which can restore healthy community by providing space where local residents, climbers, and writers in Seongbuk-gu can coexist and communicate, is required. As resident supporting facilities, propose parking facility constructing plan and complex cultural facility which respond to future change of Jeongneung 4-dong.
