Gwalior, the tourist capital of Madhya Pradesh is the fourth largest city in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a historic city famous for its ancient temples, palaces and enchanting monuments and has been called as a "pearl in the necklace of the forts of Hind". Music, Art and Culture have always been an integral part in growth of the city, the Gwalior Gharana is one of the oldest Khyal Gharana. The favourite singers at the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar ,Miyan Tansen was from the town. Gwalior has produced some extra-ordinary and famous artists like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan, Meeta Pandit, Neela Bhagwat and many more. Ironically, Indian Classical music is gaining popularity world wide while gradually losing its base in the subcontinent(India) from where it has originated.
The aim of the competition is to design a School of Music and Arts particularly responding to Indian classical style of music at the proposed land by Gwalior Municipal Corporation.
Imagination of a contemporary icon for the music gharana and the historic city Gwalior, though it does not necessarily mean that Gwalior should be the focal point while designing but in general the Indian Classical music.
