ATRIUM’s Metaverse

The architectural company ATRIUM opened a gallery of its own in a metaverse. Inside, one can examine the company’s approach and main achievements, as well as get some emotional experience. The gallery is already hosting cyberspace business meetings and corporate events.

The architectural company ATRIUM opened in a metaverse a space of its own that it named ATRIUM Virtual Gallery. On the one hand, this is a functional tool that allows you to showcase your company’s latest projects and achievements to people from all over the globe, and, on the other hand, this is a mechanism for creating an emotional response. For example, the first event that the galley hosted was ATRIUM’s Christmas corporate party: the employees joined the celebration as avatars, took part in the guided tour of the projects that the company leaders organized, visited together, and reflected on the year’s achievements. Such a format allowed the emotional experience to be more intense that a videoconference would provide. Now ATRIUM is inviting everyone to experience the same. Clicking the link is enough to get inside.

The gallery was “built” on the basis of the W3rlds platform – it allows you to create spaces with pretty decent graphics, and does not require installing any additional software. The absence of the constraints of physical reality allowed the architects to enhance the artistic statement that characterizes the company’s approach to projects: in its work, ATRIUM seeks to reinvent architecture, to move away from stereotypical solutions, and to invent a new form of the world in which we live.

The gallery is a complex and unified curvilinear space with no clear boundaries between the floor, walls, and ceiling. The designers tried to bring ATRIUM into the metaverse on all levels: the main color pattern reflects the company’s signature colors; logos, fonts, and ways of designing materials are also integrated into the display.

The four “halls” correspond to the main areas of the studio: Architecture, Design, Education, and Digital, the latter receiving special attention. Each zone presents different types of content: texts, images, videos, and 3D models of architectural projects and furniture – for example, the cylindrical shelving units named “Sliyanie” (“Merge”) or the multifunctional bar table “River”. Some models are “opened” with a smartphone or an AR headset in augmented reality. The exposition can be changed by adding fresh designs.

Visitors to the gallery can also move into a virtual sales office designed, among other things, to demonstrate the potential of the meta-universe in the development industry – it is housed in the space of the JVC complex in Dubai. Customers call the immersive experience here fascinating and valuable, though there are still limitations on the schedule and functionality. ATRIUM is already working on the requests received.

The gallery was created gradually by the company: covid limitations and the consequent digitalization of the world played a role, as well as the experience of collaboration with the Dearch Space platform, which develops projects for events, stores, and exhibition spaces in the metaverse. The founder of Dearch Space, Sergey Nadtochiy, is both the art director of ATRIUM and the head of ATRIUM Digital, which develops projects for AR/VR spaces and the metaverse.

The metaverse is only in its infancy, but with each passing year, people will spend more and more time in it. Architects need to bring their expertise into its creation to ultimately achieve a beautiful and convenient environment. The most interesting aspect of creating such projects for our company is that, at the moment, there are no universally accepted traditions, norms, or standard solutions – everything needs to be invented from scratch. Since even in conventional architectural practice, our goal has always been to reinvent architecture and its forms, in virtual design, we can go even further beyond the boundaries of stereotypical solutions, inventing an even more radical architectural language. Of course, we do not forget about ergonomics and function. We are excited to be at the forefront of this movement, and we are pleased that our contribution was recently recognized with a Special Mention award at the prestigious Architizer A+ Awards in the Architecture + Metaverse category. Currently, we are working on projects such as a furniture showroom, a virtual real estate sales office, a master plan for a large metaverse event, and several experimental projects. We share all the latest news in this field together with Dearch Space on their Telegram channel.
