Archi.ru: Your "Nests of light" are different from another projects of present Archstoyanie in complete absence of the slightest hint of traditional form – it is anything but not a barn. What made you depart from the given subject that far?
Arseniy Leonovich: Not far actually - birds' nests are is nothing but barns made of twigs ... But our project really lived its own life. Initially, Anton (Anton Kochurkin, curator of the festival - Archi.ru) had a delicate and compound idea of "elementary particles"and he suggested us to think over it. Among the version there was a very artful one – some kind of monads, capsules on the trees. This is an ageless theme of mixing of two contexts, when something handmade, designer suddenly grows up in the forest of Russian midland. It is also glowing… Everyone liked the idea and it ultimately survived, when the concept of "Archstoyanie” changed – they received some hundreds of project for the optional constest of barns and this theme superseded all the others. So we had to explain why our object is a barn post factum.
What the “nests” are made of?
A vertical (in our project it is a trunk of a tree) is covered with a collar with to which can be added lamellas. First we had a virtual prototype so that we could fix LEDs to the inner surface of the lamellas. As a result we got an inner sphere and external outline which did not match. It is low-priced - it is a good idea balancing on the brink of affordable budget and maximum efficiency. For the first time we've made it simple: we used thick plywood treated with three layers of Tikkurila (to protect from moisture).
What do you mean saying “for the first time”? Will there be the second time?
Many people liked the image (as is often happens with obvious ideas) and we are discussing how to apple their modification. "Nests" may appear not only in the forest, but also in the city - on pipes or lampposts. Why not? We are already discussing the ideas for the Moscow Design Week.
