Going down to the great river

Architectural workshop “Sergey Kiselev & Partners” has designed a mixed-use complex, which includes a hotel, an apartment building and a shopping center, on Naberezhnaya Pobedy.

The complex will be built on slope which is smoothly going down from the top where the city is situated to the Dnepr River. On one hand, this is the centre of Dnepropetrovsk, and it’s no distance to its main transport route – Karla Marksa avenue, broad and cut along by the stripes of the two boulevards. On the other hand, there are railway lines on the slope crest, which have always complicated connection between the two districts and actually determined the separate development of the embankment territory. Although recently it has been gradually building up (mainly with residential blocks), it still lacks an elaborate system of pedestrian linkages to join dynamic city life. And this was the issue the architects of “Sergey Kiselev & Partners” were to solve. The architects figuratively divided the building site into two zones: the top of the slope and the smooth slope opening to Naberezhnaya Pobedy street. At the slope there will be constructed all the main objects, and the top of the slope is given to the implementation of the complex urban plan on establishing connection among the new housing and the avenue. The plan of pedestrian traffic developed by the authors of the project is as follows. The avenue still ends up to the square, decorated with a stela, and then there is a pedestrian passage thrown over the railway tracks and is expanding with a system of ramps on the opposite “bank”. One of these ramps joins avenue and the new complex with “Prospectnaya” railway station, and its main part is laid on the slope in zig-zag convenient for pedestrians. Going down the ramp, people get into the glazed shopping precinct on the both sides of which there are one by one two shopping and entertainment centers. You can go inside of any of them or walk down the street and come out on the square in front of the centre. The direction of this final part of the route has no connection to the avenue left behind – the shopping precinct and the square are open to naberezhnaya Pobedy street and are situated perpendicular to it.
