City-Arch

The architectural studio “City-Arch” was one of the participants of an ambitious urban planning project “Bolshoe Domodedovo”. The architects based the concept of “Uzhny” neighborhood on clear and logical structure of pedestrian connections and high-rise dominants.

The “City-Arch” had the site with a complex form in plan. From one side it borders with Moscow-Don highway, from the other it borders with private cottage housing. In the direction from the town of Domodedovo to the same-name airport the site is crossed by the route given in the project. Closeness of the take-off field influenced the image of the future residential district: man-made still wings make the basis of the master plan, Aviatorov boulevard became the central street of the district: the pedestrian íàïðàâëåíèè äâèæåíèÿ. road with a themed monument in the center, which prospect is completed by W-shaped office high-rise building, resembling silhouette of a plane . Location of the high-rise building was not chosen randomly: here Moscow-Don highway turns forming a small hill. Thus, the building is well-seen from any traffic direction. "This building is a kind of entrance gate on the district territory and at the same time is its main guide point - explains the architect Valery Lukomski. - It is important that this is the only high-rise volume here - designing the residential development, we have deliberately abandoned high-rise housing, considering that low-rise and low density housing is more appropriate outside the town". The height of residential buildings in “Uzhny” ranges from 3 to 12 floors. First are townhouses – the architects located them among the main residential area and the existing private residential, the rest are apartment buildings flanking the broad road. But 5 and 9storey buildings joined in city-blocks make the main body of the development. The architects rejected to split the territory instead they preferred a system of more intimate city-blocks with planted courtyard clear from cars.
