Without question, reconstruction project of “Dinamo” stadium is one of the most discussed today. It is designed by workshop ¹ 19 of “Mosproekt-2” in association with Erick van Egeraat Architects, a Dutch architectural company.

As to the architectural image of the mixed-use complex, Dutch and Russian designers agreed that the entire perimeter must be saved, and the roof must be bright and notable. With one voice they also decided to change location of the main axis of the football field. The fact is that all modern stadiums are constructed along the north-south axis (the sunset must not disturb a game), but “Dynamo” was built more than 80 years ago and is oriented to the east-west. UEFA does make exceptions for memorial stadiums, but the architects fairly considered that players comfort is more important in this case. To reach a compromise between interests of the heritage object and players, the field will be raised over the historic perimeter. The existing "Dynamo" is housing a retail and entertainment complex with a number of levels, and its roof is transformed into the central hall of the both arenas. Without doubt the constructivist walls cannot bear the weight of the both cups at once, so within the retail zone the architects (consulted by the experts from Bollinger + Grohmann, a most competent German company) suggested building new load-bearing walls, and establish bearing framework with supports in the form of escalators along the borders of the former field. The framework and walls are connected by beams, which also support crosswalls the stands and the both roofs. The intricate construction is covered by a hexagonal grid with retractable roof over the main football field. Metal cells of the roof are filled with teflon, outside the form and the structure resemble a snake head. However, the architects say the hexagonal shape of the cells is an allusion to a football. Location of sports arenas above the shopping and entertainment complex, surely, involved radical reengineering of pedestrian and road connections scheme of the stadium. Along the western and eastern facades of the historic buildings there will grow a system of various ramps: flat for foot-walkers, spiral curled for cars, a VIP one, and for fire engines. Under the stadium, and metro exits nearby Leningradka there is a vast intercepting parking – this new transportation hub the architects call Transferum.
