Last autumn, in Kaluga, there was held an open contest on the second stage project of The State Museum of Cosmonautics History in the name of K.E. Tsiolkovsky. Vissarionov’s PTAM arranged the new constructions of the museum mostly under the underground, in the natural slope.

The architects immediately decided no to compete with the architecture of the main building and will save the exclusive dominant position of this remarkable work of modernism of 1960’s along the high bank. Objects of the second stage with area much larger than the existing buildings the architects "hide" in the landscape, fortunately the considerable relief drop is perfect for such solution. Architects earthed the new building into the slope and the green roof became a part of the mountain. The new building front the bank line with long glass facade and resonate with the main building, but it is located perpendicular and does not bother its hovering of the modernist building and extends its takeoff strip. Powerful platform of the new building roof resembles a multicolored cut-out composed of the main building and the park extracts. Thus, on the artificial plateau there appear an amphitheater, resembling one with a rocket "Vostok", new rockets and a sloping domes of skylights like parts of the planetarium. In addition to these elements and entire landscaping, the visual unity of the two buildings is underlined due to arrangement of the front entrances to the new museum from the platform. The second entrance lobby is arranged from the water raisinf side and is decorated by a canopy on thin pillars.
