Once Barvihinskaya street was quiet and picturesque Moscow suburb, today it is part of the comfortless area, extremely close to Mozhaiskoe highway and the Moscow Ring Road. Architects from SPeeCH bureau will return the street its past plentiful greens: their project of a mixed-use complex includes about 4,000 sq m of green space.
The authors suggested two variants of architectural solution. The complex in the first is divided into 4 separate constructions and three of them are connected by shopping galleries on the street level, on the plan they resemble an unfolded fan repeating the curve of Barvihinskaya. The hotel building is also triangle-shaped, which rounded top faces the residential housing. Office blocks have a variable number of storeys with green areas on their roofs. Hotel roof is the largest and is turned into a true testing ground for "green" energy concepts. It has uncommon hilly structure and considerably reduces heat loss, notably, some of the "hills" are "pierced" by wide glass ventilation pipes. In addition, there will be a large atrium in the hotel for better insulation and internal microclimate, there also will be arranged a winter garden. The second variant of the plan includes construction of a uniform volume, in the plan it resembles a comb or upturned Ш letter. This Ш faces Barvihinskaya street with its main side and repeats its smooth feminine outline. The end facades front the north, the architects filled spaces among the narrow long volumes with transparent atriums of winter gardens. The variants are reasonably different. The main reason was the presence of the second stage of "Western Gate" project by the ABD Architects, they also had two design variants: a complex of separate buildings, and three zigzag buildings joint by a single stylobate. As two facades, SPeeCH follow their laconic manner. In both variants they are gentle, with large rectangular windows, and light masonry piers. None
