As a typical oasis city in the southern Xinjiang region, the spatial evolution of the Ancient City of Kashgar profoundly reflects the comprehensive effects of multiple factors, including political power, military defense, commercial development, and socio-cultural structure. Based on historical literature and existing research findings, this paper divides the spatial evolution of the Ancient City of Kashgar into five stages: the initial stage (before 1762), the transitional stage (1766–1849), the developmental stage (1850–1953), the inheritance stage (1953–2010), and the renewal stage (2010–present). By analyzing the urban spatial patterns of different stages, the study reveals the internal logic behind the transformation of the Ancient City of Kashgar from a traditional organic settlement to a modern urban space. The research indicates that its evolution exhibits phase-specific characteristics, moving from natural growth to administrative dominance, from a single-center to a multi-center layout, and further toward functional zoning and spatial restructuring.
